Code of Conduct

The Code of Conduct serves as a set of guidelines and standards that all Employed Personal Care Assistant members of ILG PA must confirm and agree to before joining our community. It outlines the expected behaviours, responsibilities, and ethical principles that members commit to upholding in their role as caregivers. By agreeing to the Code of Conduct, our members demonstrate their commitment to professionalism, respect, effective communication, ethical behavior, health and safety, and accountability. It is in place to ensure a harmonious and respectful environment for both caregivers and the individuals they care for, promoting high-quality care and maintaining the integrity of the PCA role.

As an Employed Personal Care Assistant (PCA) member of ILG PA, we expect you to adhere to the following code of conduct, recognising the unique dynamics of your role as a PCA employed by the individual you care for:

  1. Professionalism:
    • Maintain a high level of professionalism in your interactions with your employer.
    • Respect confidentiality and privacy, understanding the importance of maintaining boundaries between personal and professional relationships.
  2. Communication:
    • Foster open, transparent, and respectful communication with your employer.
    • Actively listen to your employer’s preferences, concerns, and feedback, ensuring effective and compassionate communication.
  3. Ethical Behavior:
    • Uphold ethical standards, placing the wellbeing and dignity of your employer at the forefront of your care.
    • Respect your employer’s autonomy, cultural beliefs, and personal choices, while ensuring their safety and promoting their independence.
  4. Health and Safety:
    • Prioritise the health, safety, and wellbeing of both yourself and your employer.
    • Adhere to health and safety protocols, infection control measures, and any specific care instructions outlined by your employer.
  5. Accountability:
    • Take responsibility for your actions and the quality of care you provide to your employer.
    • Report any concerns, incidents, or breaches of conduct to your employer and follow appropriate procedures for resolution.

By upholding this code of conduct, you contribute to the wellbeing of your employer and the professionalism of the PCA role. Failure to comply with this code may result in the termination or suspension of your ILG PA membership.
